Day 2 - Grado to Salas with the B.V. Mary

We hiked about 16 miles from Grado to Salas today. It began with a long steep climb. At the top, we came across a church dedicated to our Lady, perfect for the Holy Name of Mary.

Msgr. S suggested putting a tow rope on Msgr. G. He declined. We did think that the image of snails, crawling up the hills with their house on their backs was apt. Some were crushed in the highway, a grim thought for us!
As we descended, the rain began, giving us muddy trails for the rest of the day.
At the end of the day, Msgr. S found an ogre bridge.
The river around the monastery of San Salvador is famous for its salmon. We ate lunch here
We met more great people on the trail, including a great Catholic couple from Memphis, with whom we later shared supper in Salas.
Prayers along the way included the people back home, Dalton Booth's grandfather, Joseph, and our new friends from the Camino. It is difficult getting the rosary said while gasping for breath on some hills!
Tomorrow we continue the journey!
